Carpet

Description

A handwoven carpet created by artisans of Southern Kazakhstan in the mid-20th century is executed in a traditional national style, preserving the traditions of Kazakh carpet weaving. Its ornamentation harmoniously combines geometric and floral motifs. The light-red central field of the carpet features two large quadrangular ornamental motifs outlined with black borders. Their main elements are light-green rhombuses decorated with red ornamental details. Green leaf-shaped motifs framing the central section complement the composition.
The main field is surrounded by a narrow border decorated with multicolored eight-petaled flowers. The wide black border is adorned with large red flowers and leaf-shaped motifs. The edge of the carpet is finished with red-and-black stripes featuring the zhüyrik tolqyn (“swift wave”) pattern.
