Description

Embroidered Quilt is a traditional Kazakh household item used for covering the honourable place (tör) in a house or yurt. The front side of the quilt is made of reddish-brown velvet fabric and decorated with traditional national ornaments embroidered with multicoloured threads. The edges are trimmed with black velvet. The quilt is lined, filled with sheep wool, and quilted.
It was used to decorate the honourable place reserved for guests and also served as a soft and warm mat for sitting. The embroidered quilt is an example of Kazakh decorative and applied art, reflecting the traditional lifestyle, cultural values, and craftsmanship of the Kazakh people.
