Description

Tegene is a traditional Kazakh wooden vessel used for serving food and beverages. The object was handmade from wood; its surface retains the natural colour of the wood and is not lacquered. It has a deep bowl, with thickened and smoothly rounded edges. The rim is finished with a double border featuring a raised band, which enhances the vessel’s durability and adds to its decorative character. Tegene was primarily used for serving meat dishes, as well as kumys and other traditional beverages. Wooden tableware was lightweight and durable, making it well suited to the conditions of the nomadic way of life.
