Description
The ozhau is a traditional Kazakh ladle used for serving kumis, ayran, milk, and other beverages. This handmade example is carved from a single piece of hardwood and consists of a deep oval bowl and a long, ergonomically shaped handle. The end of the handle is decorated with a bone inlay, while the wooden surface has been polished and treated with natural oil to preserve the grain and enhance its durability. The object combines practical function with refined craftsmanship, reflecting the aesthetic principles of traditional Kazakh woodworking. It was created by artist and master craftsman Koskulaq Kydyrov. The exhibit is a valuable example of Kazakhstan’s traditional household utensils and demonstrates the enduring craftsmanship and artistic heritage of Kazakh woodcarving.
