Description
This exhibit is a traditional Alasha, a flat-woven Kazakh rug handcrafted from natural wool yarn. The textile is composed of eighteen longitudinal stripes in red, yellow, and black. The yellow bands are decorated with the traditional “Qoshqar Muyiz” (“ram’s horn”) motif woven in white, symbolizing prosperity, strength, and abundance in Kazakh culture. The red stripes feature geometric ornamental patterns that create a balanced decorative composition. The edges are finished with multicolored fabric binding to strengthen the rug and enhance its appearance. Traditionally, Alasha rugs were used as floor coverings, wall decorations, and important household furnishings in Kazakh homes and yurts. This artifact is an excellent example of Kazakhstan’s traditional weaving techniques and preserves the artistic heritage of Kazakh folk textile craftsmanship.
