Large Wooden Vessel for Pouring Liquids

Description

The exhibit is a large, rounded wooden vessel intended for pouring and serving liquids. It has a wide opening, a narrower lower section, and a stable circular base. The outer surface of the vessel is richly decorated with traditional Kazakh ornamental motifs executed in deep wood-carving technique. The symmetrical arrangement of the carved ornament emphasizes the decorative character of the object. Handmade using traditional woodworking methods, the vessel demonstrates the continuity of Kazakh craft traditions in the contemporary period. Its form and function are associated with traditional Kazakh table culture and the serving of kumis, shubat, and other liquid foods. The object is in very good condition, with its wooden structure and carved decoration fully preserved.
