Iron fire tongs - Shattauyk
Shattauyk is a traditional household tool made of iron, also known among the people as yashkir, köseu, or coal tongs. It was used for stirring firewood, handling embers, and transferring heat in the hearth. In the Mangystau region, it remained widely used until the late 20th century, after which it fell out of use due to the transition to gas heating.
The tool is made from an iron strip 18 mm wide and 650 mm long, forged by hand and bent in half. It is springy in structure, with rounded and pointed ends, making it convenient for handling fire.
