Saddle (Erturman)

Description

One of the traditional horse harnesses of the Kazakh people is the erturman - a set of accessories designed for horseback riding. It is made to be both practical and decorative. In this example, the seat is crafted from leather and adorned with national ornaments. Felt is used as a lining to provide softness. The rear pommel is made flatter, while the front pommel has a pointed shape. For decorative purposes, red stones are inlaid into the front pommel. The saddle is also equipped with a pair of stirrups for the rider’s feet.
