Medal ribbon bars

Description

These medal ribbon bars belonged to M. Boranbayeva and consist of four rectangular ribbon bars mounted on a single metal backing. Each bar is covered with a colored moiré ribbon representing a specific state order or decoration. A metal pin is attached to the reverse side, allowing the ribbon bars to be worn on clothing.
Ribbon bars were used as an everyday alternative to wearing full-size orders and medals while preserving the official display of state awards. They indicated the recipient’s honors and distinguished service to the state and society. This object is of historical and memorial significance as an example of the Soviet awards system and the tradition of wearing military and civilian decorations during the second half of the 20th century.
