Description
Sholpy is a traditional Kazakh hair ornament designed to be worn with braided hair. The object is mounted on a special fitting and consists of four chains with branching elements. The composition includes four smooth silver plates shaped like leaves. The horizontal sections of the chains are decorated with wave-like patterns. Circular decorative elements are attached to both sides of the leaf-shaped plates. Its multi-tiered construction, substantial weight, and numerous suspended components create a distinctive ceremonial appearance. The object represents a 19th-century example of traditional Kazakh female jewellery and demonstrates the cultural traditions of hair adornment and the artistic working of silver.
