Kuishi (Dombra PLayer)

Description

Author: Dzhusupov, Ali. 1928-1976
An elder kuishi is depicted seated on the floor, playing the dombra. In a central, close-up composition, the figure dominates most of the canvas. The palette is strongly contrasting: warm, ochre-gold tones of the clothing and instrument stand out sharply against a rich, dark purple background. Generalized, densely modeled forms and bold brushwork lend the image monumentality and sculptural weight, resonating as an embodiment of tradition and national culture. Bottom right – signature and date.
