In the center of the valley, in the foreground, a group of people and a rider are set amidst grazing sheep. The composition is framed on both sides by reddish-brown rocky masses, between which a mountain gorge recedes into the distance, directing the viewer’s gaze toward the greenish-blue ridges far away. The depth of space is conveyed through subtle gradations of aerial perspective: as one moves away, the rich earthy and green tones give way to cool bluish-lavender hues.
