Tree

Description

Author: Zakovryashin, Alexander. 1899-1945
A landscape featuring a tree in the foreground: a massive trunk with several lopped, bare shoot-stems and thin bare branches is painted in dense brown-ochre brushstrokes. The background is rendered in a smoky gray-blue palette, depicting distant mountains and a tree line; the foreground is set in muted green-brown tones of grass and earth. Executed as a study, the painting relies on tonal contrasts without detailed elaboration. At the bottom – title and date.
