Spherocone

Description

Gray clay spherocone “Fish”. A thick-walled vessel with a narrow opening in a low neck decorated with a rim. The body is spherical, the base is conical, and ends in the shape of a fishtail 6.5 cm. long. The piece is massive and heavy. On the top of the vessel are three vertically applied projections (ribs), the longest being 12 cm., the shortest 10.5 cm. The surface of the vessel is richly decorated with stamped ornamentation in the form of herringbone patterns, impressed circles (scales), oblique dotted lines, and triangular stamps.
