Coin of the Turgesh Khaganate

Description

The coin is round with a square hole in the center. The coin has a raised rim along the edge. The central hole also has a rim. The obverse features a circular Sogdian legend, written in cursive, counterclockwise. The legend consists of four words: “Вүу twrkys ү´ү´n pny” (Lord Turgesh Khagan). The reverse features the Turgesh tamga, inscribed within the coin’s field between the thick, linear rim and the square hole. The square hole is outlined by a diamond, as part of the tamga.
