Fragment of a Water Pipe

Description

To allow interlocking connections, one end is made wider (funnel-shaped), while the other end is narrower, forming a tapered cone. Horizontal lines and marks left by the rotation of the potter’s wheel are clearly visible on the surface. The clay is dense and fired at a high temperature.
This artifact is an important piece of evidence demonstrating the high level of development of the water supply and sewerage system, as well as the civilized lifestyle of the city of Koylyk in the 12th century. It is a valuable archaeological exhibit illustrating the hydrotechnical mastery of medieval urban engineers.
