Korday District Historical and Local Lore Museum
The Kordai District Historical and Local Lore Museum is one of most important cultural centers for the preservation and promotion of the historical and cultural heritage of the region.The local history circle, which is a chronicle of the history of the native land, was founded in 1975 and reorganized in 1995. On March 30, 2012, the museum was established as the Municipal State Treasury Enterprise «Kordai District Historical and Local Lore Museum» under the Department of Culture and Language Development of the Kordai District. On August 28, 2018, through the merger of the Municipal State Treasury Enterprise «House of Culture of the Kordai District» and the Municipal State Treasury Enterprise «Kordai District Historical and Local Lore Museum» the institution was reorganized into the Municipal State Treasury Enterprise «District House of Culture and Historical and Local Lore Museum» under the Department of Culture and Language Development of the Akimat of the Kordai District, Zhambyl Region.
The main goal of the museum is the systematic study, preservation and popularization of the rich historical and cultural heritage of the area, as well as the transfer to the future generation. In addition, the museum plays an important role as a cultural and educational center aimed at creating a sense of patriotism among the younger generation and strengthening historical consciousness.
The museum is located in a one-story building. The building was built in 1960. The total area is 232 square meters, of which 172.6 square meters are intended for exhibition halls. The museum is equipped with fire alarm and security systems.
The museum’s exhibition structure consists of six halls:
«World of Animals and Plants» Hall presents information about the natural resources, flora and fauna of the area.
«Ancient and Medieval Period» Hall includes archaeological exhibits found in the area from ancient times to the Middle Ages.
«History of the Soviet Period» Hall reflects the history of the development of the district from 1929 to 1960. This hall presents documents, photographs, medals and letters of veterans of the Great Patriotic War.
«Independent Republic of Kazakhstan» Hall contains materials illustrating the formation of the sovereign state and the development of agriculture, education, healthcare, culture, and industry.
«Cultural and Ethnographic Household Items» Hall introduces visitors to the traditional way of life, crafts, and customs of the Kazakh people.
Exhibition Hall is designed for displaying photographs, creative works by folk artists and children, as well as national handicrafts.
The museum’s collection comprises more than 3,000 exhibits. Among them are a ceramic jug and asyks (alchiki) found during archaeological excavations on the territory of the settlement «Georgievsk» (X-XII centuries). In addition, the museum presents the personal belongings of the first woman diplomat and the first woman - Minister of Foreign Affairs among Kazakh women Balzhan Boltrikova, including a skirt suit, letters of thanks and certificates. The museum also stores military uniforms, medals, awards and service certificates of the first Kazakh major general, honorary employee of the Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Honorary Citizen of the Zhambyl region and the Kordai region Nurgali Baldakbaevich Smagulov.
The museum is open from Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 18:00.
Lunch break - from 13:00 to 14:00.
Admission to the museum is free.
