Akmeshit Museum

The Akmeshit Museum is a significant scientific and cultural institution dedicated to the study, promotion, and preservation of the historical and cultural development of the city of Kyzylorda. The museum was established on December 14, 2004, as part of the “Cultural Heritage” state program initiated by the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan - Elbasy. It was founded in accordance with the Decree No. 243 of the Akim of Kyzylorda Region as a branch of the Kyzylorda Regional Museum of History and Local Lore.

The building housing the museum is a historical monument constructed in 1905, reflecting the architectural style of military and administrative buildings of the early 20th century. In 1917, the building served as a military barracks. Given its historical and architectural value, the structure underwent restoration work, after which it was transferred for public use as a museum facility. The building’s original exterior was preserved, and the interior was adapted to meet modern museum exhibition standards.

The museum's exhibition comprehensively covers the historical period from 1925 to 1929, during which Kyzylorda served as the capital of the Kazakh ASSR. This era is closely tied to key political and cultural events in the history of Kazakhstan.

The restoration of the historical name “Kazakh” - presenting archival documents and photographs reflecting the decision to rename the Kyrgyz ASSR to the Kazakh Republic, made at the All-Kazakh Congress of Soviets in 1925 in Kyzylorda.

The activities of the leaders of the Alash movement - the exhibition includes materials on the state and educational activities carried out by Alash figures in Kyzylorda.

The emergence of Kazakh professional theater art - showcasing the first theatrical performances, the formation of cultural institutions in the city, and the life and work of prominent cultural figures.

The development of healthcare, education, and socio-economic sectors - the exhibition reflects the establishment of the first state institutions, hospitals, schools, and cultural facilities during the period when the city held the status of the capital. The museum's collection includes unique archival documents, photographs, household items, and rare artifacts. The exhibition is equipped with modern technologies and is designed for interactive engagement with visitors.
