Magzhan Zhumabaev Museum
The exposition of the Magzhan Zhumabayev Museum reveals the life and literary work of the outstanding poet, educator, and public figure of Magzhan Zhumabayev, and presents his rich literary heritage.
The museum’s main activities are focused on studying the life path and creative legacy of Magzhan Zhumabayev, identifying new data, and introducing previously unexplored aspects into academic circulation.
Within the framework of the theme “Magzhan in the Memory of the Nation”, research work is systematically continued based on modern sources. Additional information related to the life path, public activities, and creative work of Magzhan Zhumabayev has been collected from village residents, his relatives and associates, as well as scholars who highly appreciated his work and conducted research studies. The collected materials have been systematized within the framework of the museum’s local history research and are aimed at fostering civic consciousness and patriotic feelings among the younger generation.
In 1989, a museum dedicated to Magzhan Zhumabayev was established in a single room of the Sarytomar Secondary School. The founder was Yerik Kaskeyevich Kozhekpayev. In 1993, the museum was reorganized as an in-school museum. From January 17, 2008, it was granted the status of the State Communal Government Enterprise “Magzhan Zhumabayev Museum.” Since May 23, 2019, it has been renamed “Magzhan Zhumabayev Museum” Branch of the Municipal State Public Enterprise “North Kazakhstan Regional Museum Association of the Department of Culture, Language Development and Archival Affairs of the Akimat of the North Kazakhstan Region.
The exhibition of the Magzhan Zhumabayev Museum reflects the life, literary work, and legacy of Magzhan Zhumabayev. The exhibition is arranged in three halls:
Hall 1 - Introductory Hall - Features a bust of M. Zhumabayev and display cases with contemporary editions of the poet’s literary heritage.
Hall 2 - Photo and Documentary Hall - Presents photographic and documentary materials telling the story of the poet’s family, years of study, creative activity, and his tragic life during the years of political repressions.
Hall 3 - Poet’s Study - Recreates the interior of the 1930s.
The museum collection consists of the main collection and the research and auxiliary collection. One of the rarest artifacts in the museum’s holdings is the poetry collection “Selected Poems”, published in Tashkent in 1923. The exhibition also features photographs and archival documents, collections of Magzhan’s poems, works by S. Kudash, S. Mukanov, A. Kunanbayev, I. P. Shukhov, Zh. Suleimenov, and B. Kanarbayeva, as well as paintings by V. P. Manzya: “Tugan Zher,” (Homeland), “Kanat Katay,”(Katay’s Wings) and “Tugan Zher - Sarytomar”(Homeland - Sarytomar).
