I. P. Shukhov’s house-museum

The Ivan Petrovich Shukhov Literary and Memorial Museum, located in the village of Presnovka in the Zhambyl District of the North Kazakhstan Region, is a unique cultural and spiritual site of regional significance. It serves as one of the key historical and cultural centers linking the literary landscapes of Kazakhstan and Russia. The museum is dedicated to the life and work of the prominent writer, journalist, and translator Ivan Petrovich Shukhov (1906-1977), renowned for his significant contribution to the popularization of Kazakh literature and culture.

The memorial museum was established on December 21, 1981, by a special decree of the Council of Ministers of the Kazakh SSR. The exhibition is housed in the very home where the writer lived for many years, built in 1942 on the shore of Lake Pitnoye. The building is a spacious one-story structure preserving elements of traditional rural architecture. It is officially listed among the historical and cultural monuments of local significance. The total area of the house is 117 square meters, with 104 square meters designated for exhibition purposes.

On the adjacent territory, there is an additional administrative building covering 138 square meters. A garden planted by the writer has been preserved near the museum, along with various household and cultural artifacts donated by Shukhov’s relatives and fellow villagers. The museum complex forms a symbolic space that harmoniously blends nature and literature.

The museum exhibition covers the main stages of the writer’s life and creative journey, his journalistic work, literary translations, and public-educational activities. Among the valuable exhibits are original manuscripts, diaries, letters, newspaper publications, photographs, and personal belongings. The museum also houses a complete collection of Shukhov’s literary and journalistic works, correspondence with Kazakhstani writers, and materials highlighting his creative collaborations.

The museum conducts a variety of activities, including: Research and academic work (studying and publishing Shukhov’s legacy), Literary and cultural events (commemorative evenings, literary sessions for school and university students), Museum pedagogy programs, Excursions and interactive projects, Interregional and international cooperation.

The I.P. Shukhov Memorial Museum is not only a center for promoting the writer’s legacy, but also an important literary platform that contributes to strengthening the historical and cultural ties between Kazakhstan and Russia.
