Aral City Historical Museum
The Aral City Historical Museum is one of the most significant cultural and educational institutions within the spiritual and cultural landscape of the Kyzylorda Region. This museum is dedicated to the life and creative legacy of Abdijamil Karimovich Nurpeisov, People's Writer of Kazakhstan, an outstanding literary figure, publicist, and public figure. The institution was established based on Resolution No. 494 of the Akimat of the Aral District, dated November 24, 2014.
The museum’s primary mission is to promote the writer’s literary heritage, the artistic and aesthetic achievements of national literature, and to reflect the socio-cultural transformations and spiritual development of the 20th century. The museum is located at: 22 Baikonyr Street, Aral city, Kyzylorda Region. It occupies a single-story building with nine rooms, which include exhibition halls as well as reconstructed living and working spaces of the writer (office, bedroom, kitchen, and bathroom), allowing visitors to immerse themselves in his authentic creative environment.
Abdijamil Karimovich Nurpeisov was born on October 22, 1924, in the village of Ushkon, in the Kulandy area of the Aral District, Kyzylorda Region. He is recognized as a classic of Kazakh literature and the author of major epic works such as "Blood and Sweat" and "The Last Duty". In addition to his literary work, he was actively involved in journalism and public life. He served for many years as editor-in-chief of the literary magazine Zhalyn, and as an active member of the Writers' Union of Kazakhstan, making a profound contribution to the country's intellectual and cultural development.
The museum's collection includes translations of the writer's works into several languages, including Russian, Bulgarian, Polish, and Romanian. It also houses rare photographs, manuscripts, awards, and personal belongings of Nurpeisov. The exhibits feature photographs of the author with intellectuals, statesmen, fellow writers, and family members.
On November 15, 2015, a symbolic sculptural composition dedicated to Zhadiger and Bakizhat, the main characters of "The Last Duty", was unveiled. The bronze monument, 2.5 meters in height and 3.6 meters in width, was created by sculptor Kosher Baigaziyev from Aktau. This composition serves as a vivid example of the connection between literary art and collective public consciousness.
On October 22, 2019, in honor of Nurpeisov’s 95th anniversary, the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, awarded him the high national title of Hero of Labor of Kazakhstan. That same year, a seven-volume collection of the writer’s works was published by Kazygurt Publishing House.
The Aral City Historical Museum is not just a chronicle of one man's life, but a comprehensive scholarly and educational center that systematically presents the spiritual atmosphere of an era and the developmental stages of Kazakh literature and culture. The museum’s activities aim to preserve national historical memory, promote respect for literary heritage, and foster the aesthetic and cultural consciousness of younger generations.
