The Historical and Local Lore Museum in the Ordabasy District
The Ordabasy District Museum of History and Local Lore is one of the key cultural institutions dedicated to representing the historical and cultural heritage of the region. The museum was officially established in 2005 to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the founding of Ordabasy District. The building housing the museum was originally constructed in 1977.
Initially, this two-room facility served as the memorial "House of Kazhymukan." In 2001, it was transferred to the jurisdiction of the regional Civil Registry Office. Beginning in 2005, it came under the management of the Ordabasy District Museum of History and Local Lore. During renovation works carried out in 2008, an additional room was added, thus expanding the museum's exhibition space.
The museum’s primary function is the collection, preservation, research, and public presentation of the historical, ethnographic, and archaeological heritage of the Ordabasy region. In addition, the institution plays a vital role in fostering patriotic education among younger generations and cultivating historical awareness.
The museum’s exhibition is structured around three main sections:
1. Scientific-Historical Section - This section presents a brief historical chronicle of Ordabasy District. It features materials related to the administrative development of the district, the histories of local settlements, and biographical information on prominent statesmen, public figures, poets, writers, and regional leaders. The section also includes documentary evidence, photographs, and materials highlighting the region’s role in the broader historical context of Kazakhstan.
2. Ethnographic Section - This part of the exhibition showcases artifacts that reflect the traditional lifestyle of the Kazakh people, including domestic utensils, yurt furnishings, examples of national attire, jewelry, and tools of labor. Through these objects, visitors gain a deeper understanding of the worldview and everyday life of the local population in the 19th and 20th centuries.
3. Archaeological Section - Displayed here are artifacts discovered during archaeological excavations of ancient settlements and burial mounds within the territory of the Ordabasy region. These include ceramic vessels, metal objects, numismatic materials, and everyday items from sites such as Karaspantobe, Altyntobe, and Kultobe. These findings provide compelling evidence of continuous human habitation in the area since ancient times.
The Ordabasy District Museum of History and Local Lore functions as a spiritual and cultural hub, bridging past and present while preserving intergenerational historical memory.
