Literary Museum Mirtemir

The Mirtemir Literary Museum is a literary and memorial institution dedicated to the life and creative legacy of Mirtemir Tursunov, a People's Poet of Uzbekistan.

The primary function of the museum is to preserve, study, and present literary heritage to the public. It serves as a significant center for cultural and educational activities in the region.

Mirtemir Omarbekovich Tursunov was born on May 28, 1910, in the village of Ikan, located in the Turkistan Region. In the 1930s, he became a victim of political repression and was sent to work on the construction of the Moscow-Volga Canal. However, he soon returned to Tashkent, where he engaged in teaching and literary work. He translated into Uzbek such major literary works as Who Is Happy in Russia by N. A. Nekrasov, The Knight in the Panther's Skin by Shota Rustaveli, as well as works by A. S. Pushkin, Abai, Rabindranath Tagore, and other authors.

The museum's collection includes photographs, manuscripts, poetry collections, personal belongings, documents, and clothing items related to the poet’s life and work. These exhibits provide a deeper understanding of Mirtemir’s literary legacy.

The museum was officially registered and opened on July 13, 2023. It operates with the support of the Department of Culture of the Turkistan Region.
