Zhanibek district historical and local history museum

Zhanibek District Museum of History and Local Lore is one of the key scientific and educational institutions of the West Kazakhstan Region, dedicated to the systematic preservation, study, and promotion of the region’s historical and cultural heritage. Although the museum was officially established on November 27, 2015 as a branch of the West Kazakhstan Regional Museum of History and Local Lore, its origins date back to an earlier period.

The museum’s foundation began with the creation of a small school-based exhibition corner dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the poet Tair Zharokov. In 2001, on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan, this exhibition was moved to the building of the district children's library, where it was significantly expanded and structurally reorganized. For many years, the museum functioned on a voluntary basis, evolving through the active involvement of the local community.

Currently, the Zhanibek District Museum of History and Local Lore includes the following exhibition halls:

1. “History of the District” Hall - dedicated to the history of the Zhanibek region from ancient times to the present day. It features archaeological artifacts, maps, and documentary materials.

2. “Names of Heroes in the Memory of the People” Hall - an exhibition highlighting the lives and contributions of prominent local public figures, labor heroes, and veterans of war and labor.

3. “Culture and Art” Hall - showcases the spiritual life of the district, traditional crafts, folk art, and achievements in the field of culture and the arts.

4. “Independence” Hall - reflects the social, economic, and cultural development of Kazakhstan during the years of independence, as well as national values and ideals.

5. Panoramic Hall “Zhanibek in the Flames of War” - a special exhibition dedicated to the history of the district during the Great Patriotic War, featuring the heroism of frontline soldiers and the labor of the home front.

The museum’s collection contains over 3,000 artifacts of high historical and cultural value. Among them are household items from the 19th-20th centuries (such as clay jugs, wooden headrests, hand mills, mortars, cast-iron cauldrons, samovars, copper teapots and dishes, wooden bowls), as well as documents and photographs related to war and labor veterans. These items are of interest not only as historical sources but also as valuable materials for ethnographic and cultural-anthropological research.

Today, the Zhanibek District Museum of History and Local Lore plays an active role in the development of regional studies, the preservation of historical memory, the patriotic education of youth, and the expansion of scientific and cultural communication. Its exhibitions are regularly updated and modernized in accordance with contemporary museological standards. The museum staff also conduct research and methodological.
