Zharkainsky Historical and Local Lore Museum

The Zhaksy District Local History Museum, a branch of the Akmola Regional Museum of History and Local Lore, is located in the town of Derzhavinsk, within the Zharkain District of Akmola Region. The museum officially opened its doors on September 1, 2023. It is housed in a standalone building constructed in 1975, with a total area of 175.6 square meters. Veterans and community activists, under the leadership of the chairman of the District Council of Veterans, U.A. Akhmetov, played a significant role in the establishment of the museum and the formation of its collections. Exhibits were gathered from all settlements of the Zharkain District.

Currently, the museum features four main exhibition halls. The diverse collections displayed in these halls offer a comprehensive overview of the cultural traditions, historical way of life, and economic practices of the region's population. Some of the artifacts have long since fallen out of everyday use and now survive only as rare items preserved within the museum setting.

The museum’s collection is regularly updated with new and unique exhibits. Recently, the collection was enriched by a traditional handmade carpet woven in 1984 in the city of Aral. Such items of folk applied art serve as important examples of the aesthetic sensibilities of local artisans and the preservation of national artistic traditions.

The museum’s activities are aimed at preserving historical and cultural heritage, strengthening generational continuity, and promoting the history and culture of the native land among the younger generation. Moreover, the museum plays an important role in meeting the cultural needs of the local population by organizing educational events, temporary exhibitions, and public programs.
