Museum-house of Pavel Vasiliev

The Literary and Memorial House-Museum of Pavel Vasilyev in the city of Pavlodar was solemnly opened on December 23, 1994. This significant cultural event was dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the poet Pavel Vasilyev's birth. In the courtyard of the museum stands a monument to the poet, created by sculptor Erkin Mergenov and architect Kabiden Montakayev.

The total area of the museum is 55.7 square meters. In its only exhibition hall, the museum staff have recreated the everyday life of the Pavlodar region in the 1920s and have scientifically arranged more than 2,000 items to give visitors a comprehensive understanding of the poet’s creative world. To authentically reflect the era in which P. Vasilyev lived, extensive research and restoration work was carried out, cooperation was established with Vasilyev scholars, and the museum collection has been regularly enriched.

Reconstructing the true biography of the poet and systematizing his literary legacy required many years of meticulous research and the efforts of various specialists. Today, the exhibition of the Pavel Vasilyev House-Museum includes all the major materials related to his life and work. Visitors can view personal belongings of the Vasilyev family, including books, manuscripts, a paper-cutting knife, an ashtray, the jewelry box of the poet’s mother Glafira Matveyevna, editions signed by the poet during his lifetime, as well as photographs. These items are considered rare and particularly valuable historical sources.

At present, the Literary and Memorial House-Museum of Pavel Vasilyev serves as a methodological and research center for the study of his literary heritage. Vasilyev scholars from various regions of Kazakhstan and Russia regularly visit the museum and conduct academic research based on its collection.
