The Uil District Museum of Art and Local History named after Sh. Bersiyev

The Sh. Bersiev Museum of Art and Regional History in Oiyl District is one of the most significant historical and cultural institutions in the Oiyl District of Aktobe Region. Its primary mission is the preservation, study, and comprehensive promotion of the rich history and unique cultural heritage of the Oiyl region. The museum plays an important role in passing on the spiritual and material wealth of the people to future generations.

The museum was originally established in 1977 as a people's museum. In 2000, it was granted the status of a state institution. In 2007, the museum was named after Shyganak Bersiev, a native of the Oiyl District, an outstanding agronomist, and Hero of Socialist Labor. The museum building itself is a historical site, constructed in 1907. During the Soviet era, it housed the Executive Committee of the Oiyl Uyezd and later served various administrative and educational purposes.

The total area of the museum is 290 square meters. Currently, it operates seven exhibition halls:

• The Archaeology and Ethnography Hall, which presents materials on the ancient history of the region and the traditional lifestyle of the local population;

• The Nature Hall, dedicated to the flora and fauna of the Oiyl region;

• The Early 20th Century Hall, which highlights the activities of the Alash movement and the historical role of the Oiyl Ualat (regional administration);

• The Great Patriotic War Hall, featuring information about local residents who participated in the war;

• The Hall of Labor Glory, which showcases the achievements of labor heroes and prominent workers of the Soviet period;

• The Hall dedicated to Shyganak Bersiev, which reflects his life path, agricultural work, and global contributions to crop cultivation;

• The Contemporary Art and Culture Hall, which displays artworks by local artists and craftsmen.

The museum’s collection comprises over 6,000 items, including archaeological artifacts, ethnographic objects, documents, photographs, personal belongings, and visual artworks. All exhibits undergo systematic scholarly cataloguing and digitization.

The museum staff is actively engaged in local history research, implements collaborative educational projects with local schools and colleges, and organizes informative and educational events for youth and students.

The Sh. Bersiev Museum of Art and Regional History is not only a repository of historical relics but also a cultural and spiritual center that plays a vital role in educating the local population and younger generations. By contributing significantly to the comprehensive study of the Oiyl region’s history, as well as the preservation and promotion of its cultural heritage, the museum holds a well-deserved place among the leading cultural institutions of Kazakhstan.
