Historical and Local Lore Museum of the Uspensky District

The Local History Museum of the Uspensky District was established in 1956 and was originally located in the building of the District House of Culture in the village of Uspenka. On December 14, 2015, the issue of housing the museum in a separate building was resolved.

The museum collection was expanded as a result of the merger of two museums: the District Local History Museum and the Historical and Industrial Museum of the collective farm “30 Years of Kazakhstan.”

The museum conducts scientific and educational activities aimed at deepening public knowledge of the history of the native region and Kazakhstan as a whole.

At present, the museum consists of five exhibition halls: The Hall of District Settlers, The Hall of Military Glory, The Hall of District Development, The Hall of District Achievements, The Hall Dedicated to the 30th Anniversary of the Independence of Kazakhstan

The exhibition halls partially display exhibits arranged by chronology and theme. Thematic exhibitions have been created to reflect the main milestones in the history of the district, beginning with the period of settlement and the formation of the district. The exhibits include materials about war veterans, Afghan war participants, participants in the liquidation of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant accident, virgin land pioneers, as well as photographs, textual materials, albums, and items of culture and everyday life of local residents, covering a period from the early 20th century to the present day.

As of today, the museum’s collection comprises 2,369 exhibits. The collection continues to grow through donations made free of charge by residents of the Uspensky District. Local residents willingly donate personal items that have their own historical value. For example, a resident of the village of Uspenka, V. Sopelnik, donated a radio transmitter he used while serving as a radio operator; this receiver intercepted radio signals from enemy aircraft. The museum also houses a wolf trap donated by a resident of the village of Lozovoye. In the post-war period, more than 20 wolves were caught using this trap, the largest of which measured approximately two meters in length.
