Lisakovsk Museum of History and Culture of Upper Tobol Region

The Lisakovsk Museum of History and Culture of the Upper Tobol Region was founded in 1991. Currently, the museum's collection comprises over 23,000 items.

The foundation of the Lisakovsk Museum’s collection was formed from the holdings transferred from the historical and industrial museum of the town-forming enterprise - the Lisakovsk Mining and Processing Plant. The materials were collected by S. M. Lyapustina, the founder of museum work in Lisakovsk.

Since 1992, the museum began receiving an archaeological collection from the Bronze Age settlement and necropolis of Lisakovsk (excavations conducted by E. R. Usmanova, Saryarka Archaeological Institute at the E. A. Buketov Karaganda State University). The uniqueness of this collection lies in its comprehensive representation of the material culture of the Andronovo cultural-historical community from the 18th to the 13th centuries BCE.

A natural continuation of the archaeological collection is the ethnographic collection, reflecting the rich cultural heritage of the multi-ethnic population of Northern Kazakhstan. It includes exhibits representing the cultures of Kazakh, Russian, Ukrainian, German, Tatar, and other ethnic groups residing in the Lisakovsk region.

The advantageous geographical location of the region - on the border of Europe and Asia, at the intersection of two cultural and historical traditions, nomadic and sedentary-agricultural -makes the museum attractive for the development of cultural tourism and the implementation of active regional educational policies.

The museum's exhibition consists of the following halls:

“Ancient History of the Steppe”

“Sacred Room”

“Lisakovsk: Economy and Public Life”

“Traditional Culture of the Peoples of Kazakhstan”

Exhibition Hall

In 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022, and 2023, the Lisakovsk Museum of History and Culture of the Upper Tobol Region was recognized as a winner in various categories of the regional stage of the national contest Rukhani Kazyna. At the national Rukhani Kazyna-2019 contest held in Nur-Sultan, the museum was awarded the title of Best District (City) Museum in the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Every year, more than 30,000 people visit the museum and participate in its traveling exhibitions, online and offline events, and educational programs. The museum offers virtual 3D tours, and QR codes are used in the preparation of exhibitions.
