D.A. Kunayev Museum

The museum, established with the aim of preserving and promoting the legacy of Dinmukhamed Akhmetovich Kunaev, was opened on January 12, 2002, in honor of the 90th anniversary of the prominent statesman and public figure. In 2022, on the occasion of Kunaev’s 110th anniversary, the museum building underwent a major renovation, during which the exhibition space was completely modernized. The total area of the museum is 154.7 square meters.

The museum's collection includes 1,392 items. These exhibits comprise valuable historical materials and cultural artifacts related to the life and work of D.A. Kunaev. The main mission of the institution is to preserve and promote national historical memory by highlighting Kunaev’s political, scientific, and public legacy. In addition, the museum carries out educational, research, and cultural outreach activities. Thematic tours, lectures, scientific conferences, and commemorative events are regularly held at the museum.

The museum’s exhibition is organized into three main halls:

The first hall presents materials about Kunaev’s family, childhood and youth, the beginning of his professional career, and his service during the Great Patriotic War.

The second hall is dedicated to his presidency of the Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan, his contributions to the history of Almaty, his private weapon collection, and the period of his retirement (1986-1993).

The third hall features his official awards, his personal office and desk, as well as information about his international diplomatic relations.

As part of the 2022 re-exposition, the museum was equipped with modern technologies. Exhibitions are accompanied by audio guides available in Kazakh, Russian, English, Turkish, and Chinese. In addition, the museum features touch-screen panels providing information in three languages, significantly enhancing visitors' access to the exhibition content.
