House-Museum of K.I. Scriabin

The House-Museum of Academician K. I. Skryabin is an important site of scientific and cultural heritage. The museum was opened during the lifetime of the great scientist - in 1962 - and today it stands as a unique scientific and cultural institution that reflects the history of the development of helminthology in Kazakhstan and across the post-Soviet space.

From 1907 to 1911, K. I. Skryabin worked as a veterinary doctor in the former city of Aulie-Ata (now Taraz) and lived in this very building. His work in the region made a significant contribution to the development of agriculture, veterinary science, and research activities. The museum, established to popularize the life and scientific legacy of the scholar, has become an important center that illustrates the connection between regional history and national science.

The museum complex consists of the main building and a helminthological laboratory. In 1980, the laboratory was reorganized into a branch of the All-Union Scientific Research Institute of Helminthology under the USSR Academy of Sciences. In 1978, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the academician’s birth, the museum building underwent major renovation and the surrounding area was landscaped. That same year, a monument to K. I. Skryabin was installed in the museum courtyard, and a memorial plaque was placed on the main façade of the building. In addition, on the left side wall of the building, a second memorial plaque was installed at the initiative of delegates of an international conference dedicated to the centenary of the founder of helminthology.

The museum’s collection houses many valuable artifacts, including scientific books belonging to K. I. Skryabin, manuscripts, rare photographs, and personal belongings donated by his family. These materials offer a deeper insight into the life and scientific achievements of the distinguished scholar.

Today, the House-Museum of Academician K. I. Skryabin is considered one of the most important historical and scientific cultural landmarks in the city of Taraz.
