Dombra

Kyzylorda Regional Museum of Local Lore

This dombra was presented in 1939 by the народ poet Zhambyl Zhabayev to the renowned akyn and zhyrshi Nartai Bekezhanov. Zhambyl Zhabayev inscribed the name “Bekezhanov” on the frame of the instrument using a metal engraving technique, which is still visible today.
The dombra is made of red wood and is notable for its durability and high-quality craftsmanship. The instrument represents a valuable cultural artifact that reflects the spiritual and artistic continuity between prominent figures of Kazakh traditional music.
In 1974, the dombra was acquired from Äleydar Embergenov, a resident of Baigekum village in the Shieli District, and was subsequently included in the museum collection.
Dimensions: total length - 93 cm, body length - 90 cm.
This dombra holds significant importance for the study of the creative relationship between Zhambyl Zhabayev and Nartai Bekezhanov, as well as the tradition of Kazakh folk musical instrument making
