Table. Fragment of writing. The settlement Kultobe, Southern Kazakhstan. Around 140 well-readable signs are stamped in seven “lines” using the technique of impressing on wet clay, covered with a yellowish slip. Translation: “This city was built by the leader of the army (or: Spadane) Shat [… the] son of […]. He came (?) here in order to (?) and (the land) belonging to (our) people (or: the people bqt, from bak “garden”) and (the land belonging to) the people of tents (nomads) [could be, and] the lord of Samarkand and (the lord) K(esha and) the lord of Nakhshab and (the lord) Navakme(tana agreed(?); and he (?) took all the treasures and (now this) (land) belongs (personally to him) or: to his throat= soul.”
