Ceramic oil lamp

Description

Ceramic oil lamp (chirag). Made of clay and fired in a kiln. It has an oval shape consisting of an integrated reservoir and an elongated open spout (wick holder).Animal fat, petroleum, or vegetable oil was poured into the reservoir, while a wick (made of cotton or fabric) was placed in the elongated trough-like spout. The base is smoothed.
The ceramic oil lamp (chirag) was one of the essential objects widely used in the daily life of medieval cities and settlements to illuminate dwellings, mosques, and workshops.This artifact serves as an important archaeological item illustrating the domestic culture, pottery craft, and level of craftsmanship of that era.
