Still Life “Peaches on a Plate”

Description

Author: Leontiyev, Leonid. 1913-1983
Rendered in a decorative, generalized style with the rhythmic application of flat, distinct brushstrokes, this still life features a white plate with ripe peaches in the foreground. Behind it unfolds the plane of a dark blue drapery scattered with green fruits. The color scheme builds on a resonant juxtaposition of the warm red-yellow and ochre tones of the fruits with the cool blue-grey and emerald shades of the background. The flattened treatment of forms and the segmented brushwork impart a tangible materiality to the objects, ensuring the decorative integrity of the composition.
