Boule de Neige

Description

Author: Leontiyev, Leonid. 1913-1983
Centered on the canvas, this still life features a bouquet of lush, spherical blossoms anchored by iris stems with narrow leaves that imbue the composition with an upward momentum. Fallen petals scattered across the table surface impart a sense of vivid naturalness to the scene. The color scheme builds on a striking juxtaposition of cool grey-blue background tones with the purity of the white blossoms, rich purple iris accents, and the warm brown hue of the vessel. The free, impasto brushwork, generalized rendering of the background, and careful attention to the light-air environment align the work with the tradition of realistic study-like still lifes.
