Summer

Description

Author: Leontiyev, Leonid. 1913-1983
A genre composition dedicated to the theme of leisure, rendered in a free, painterly style with broad, energetic brushwork. Set at the center of a sunlit clearing, a young man in a white shirt sits resting his right hand on his knee, smiling at the viewer and imparting a vivid immediacy to the figure. Behind him, a woman lies on her side with a book; in the background, a child gathers flowers on the left, while young women rest on the grass on the right. The rich, sunny color scheme-built on the harmony of lush green grass, warm ochre, and the brilliant white patch of the shirt-along with the impasto technique, masterfully evokes the atmosphere of a summer day. At the lower right - signature.
