An autumn forest landscape. In the lower portion is a shadowed forest floor with fallen leaves and undergrowth. Through the tree trunks, glimpses of light can be discerned in the depths. The coloration is built on a rich combination of the warm yellow, ochre, and orange tones of the foliage with the dark earthy patches of the foreground. The work is executed with a fragmented, mosaic-like brushwork that creates a vibrating texture and a sense of the shimmer of autumn light. The plein-air spontaneity and coloristic structure align the work with the tradition of Impressionist landscape painting.
