Description

Description: Keli is a tool made of hard wood, used for pounding and grinding grains such as millet or wheat. Making a keli is a highly skilled craft. The keli is carved from various types of wood. Craftsmen carefully select suitable trees for its creation. To prevent cracking, the keli is bound with a strap covered in camel leather. Once the leather is completely dry, the keli is tightly compressed. Its surface is polished with a strap to give it a shine. The wooden pestle used with the keli is called a kelsap.
