Description
The 1924 silver 50-kopeck coin, commonly known as the “Poltinnik,” is one of the early coins of the Soviet Union.
The obverse features the coat of arms of the USSR, with the inscription “Proletarians of all countries, unite!” around the rim, and the denomination “One poltinnik” below.
The reverse depicts a blacksmith striking an anvil, symbolizing labor and industry, with the date “1924” shown beneath.
The edge inscription reads: “Chistogo serebra 9 grams (2 zol. 10.5 dol.) P.L.,” indicating the silver content of the coin and the initials of Pyotr Latyshev, mint master of the Petrograd Mint.
A loop is soldered to the reverse, suggesting the coin was repurposed as a button.
