Kimeshek (traditional women’s headdress)

Description

The kimeshek is a traditional headdress worn by married Kazakh women. This example is made of white fabric, has a pointed upper section, and covers the head, neck, shoulders, and chest while leaving the face exposed. An elongated triangular tail extends down the back. The upper section and chest area are decorated with embroidery in burgundy and red threads, featuring floral and ornamental compositions. The embroidery is arranged symmetrically along the central axis and incorporates circular and vegetal motifs. The neckline is oval-shaped. The lower edge and back of the garment are kept simple and undecorated. The artefact reflects the distinctive features of traditional Kazakh women’s clothing.
