Tombstone

Description

Tombstone. The white marble tombstone was erected in 1881 by Lieutenant General G.A. Kolpakovsky on the grave of Shokan Ualikhanov under the supervision of Governor-General of Turkestan K.P. Kaufman.
On the surface of the monument, there is an engraved inscription: “HERE LIES THE PRIDE OF STAB’S ROYALIST CHOKAN CHINGISOVICH VALIKHANOV, WHO DIED IN 1865.” Under the inscription, there are two crescents pointing in opposite directions and an arrow separating them. Below is another inscription: “At the request of the Turkestan Governor-General, Adjutant General von Kaufman, in recognition of Valikhanov’s scientific achievements, this monument was erected by Lieutenant General Kolpakovsky in 1881.”
The monument was intentionally divided in the middle, and a crack can be seen in the middle of the monument.
