R. Galieva’s Skullcap

Description

The object is a traditional skullcap that belonged to R. Galieva, handmade from red velvet. It has a rounded form with a flat top and upright sides. Its surface is decorated with multicoloured beads, sequins, and other applied decorative elements arranged across the top and sides to form an ornamental composition. Traditional hand-sewing and decorative embroidery techniques were used in its production. The object illustrates methods of decorating women’s headwear in the second half of the twentieth century and is of ethnographic and historical-cultural significance as an example of traditional textile craftsmanship.
