Kobyz

Description

Kobyz is a stringed bowed instrument played with a bow. This version has a semi-spherical body, with the front coated in wood. The neck is narrow, and the head is slightly flat. The Kobyz is strung with two strings made from long horsehair, numbering around 40 strands. The bow is stored separately. The instrument is entirely handmade, and the finishes on the surface attest to traditional craftsmanship and skill. Author: master of folk art E.A. Zhangaliyev.
