Description
Western Kazakhstan. Baskur is a patterned woven braid used for decorating a yurt, as well as for externally tightening the joints with the kerege. It consists of twisted woolen threads. The composition of the ornament is executed in the interlaced technique of terme. It includes an alternation of black and red stripes with “zhuzteru” patterns, as well as diamonds with inscribed “tortkulaq” patterns. The edges of the baskur are bordered with a strip featuring “alamonshak” patterns in black and white.
