The jeweler’s forge

Mangistau Regional Museum of History and Local Lore named after A. Kekilbayev

The jeweler’s forge is a blacksmith’s tool that utilizes a stream of air to ignite coal for melting iron. Two specially designed lids create airtight leather sacks that do not allow air to escape, and between them is a valve with a damper from the lower lid. When the air filling the forge is compressed, it is directed to the neck of the forge, fanning the fire. The color of the jeweler’s forge is red-yellow, its length is 74 cm, width is 28.5 cm, and thickness is 5.8 cm. At the back, there is a handle that allows it to be lifted, with a thickness of 17 cm when lifted. The top lid has a round opening measuring 7 x 7 cm. The handle at the back measures 17.6 cm. The upper lid has a cut wooden edge, while the top and bottom lids are covered with leather secured by conical nails. The upper lid is engraved with a bone pattern. The color of the lids is yellow, the wood with the handle is finished in red, and the covered leather is brown. The inner folding leather element is painted gray.
