Description

Patchwork Carpet (тер көрпе / жер көрпе).
It is a vivid example of the development of Kazakh ethno-design and contemporary craftsmanship in the 21st century. The harmony of colors on the carpet (brown, white, deep blue) and geometric precision describe the process of adapting traditional Kazakh household items to modern interiors. The exhibit is highly valued as a work of contemporary folk decorative applied art in museum collections.
Artistic features:
Central composition: In the center of the carpet is a large diamond-shaped figure made up of brown and white fabrics. This pattern refers to the traditional style “омыртқа құрақ” or the modern style “pyramid/step.” Each large block is adorned with small triangles.
Edges (border): The inner edge of the carpet is decorated with multicolored (red, blue, gray, mottled) small squares and triangles, designed with chess motifs “eight petals” or “eye patch.” The outer frame is bordered with deep blue wavy fabric, giving the piece the style of modern ethno-modernism.
