Museum of “Military Glory”

Since March 30, 1985, by the decision of the Ministry of Culture, it has been officially operating as a department of the Museum of History and Local Lore. The Museum of Valor, located in the City House of Culture, celebrates the heroism of East Kazakhstanis who fought against the German fascist invaders. The museum consists of two expositions. It describes the history and glory of the Armed Forces. It tells about the bloody battles from Moscow, Leningrad, Kursk, Prague, Budapest to Berlin.

The exhibits in the museum truly reflect the heroic deeds of the soldiers of the Semipalatinsk region, their good deeds for the benefit of the country and posterity. The exhibits there are photo chronicles, letters written by soldiers to their relatives, diaries written on the battlefield, soldiers' uniforms, and military equipment - signs of the bloody war of the 20th century. One section is completely devoted to the heroism of our compatriots who participated in the war, which is an example for future generations. Two divisions were equipped and sent to war in our city. One of them, the 238th division, first participated in the liberation of Moscow and Riga from the enemy, and then ended its heroic path by taking the Baltics. Later, it received the rank of 30th Guards.

The 8th division, formed in late 1941 and early 1942, liberated the cities along the Dnieper River and ended with Czechoslovakia. Both divisions were awarded the Order of the Red Banner for their heroic deeds, and the 8th division was awarded the Order of Suvorov, II degree. Special hospitals were opened during the war to quickly treat the wounded and integrate them into the army. The largest evacuation hospitals were in Semipalatinsk. There were six of them. The EG-3593 evacuation hospital here was the only specialized institution in Kazakhstan for prosthetics, since it was there that commanders and soldiers of the Soviet Army who had lost limbs (amputees) were transported.
