Harbour with Sailboats

Seascape depicting the harbour of a southern coastal town. Fishing boats are moored along a stone embankment, some with raised sails and others with sails furled; in the foreground, figures can be seen working at the sides of the vessels. Behind the boats rises a dense cluster of buildings with whitewashed walls and tiled roofs, and on the right a domed tower dominates the view, completing the composition. The calm water reflects the hulls of the boats and the warm light of the midday sun, while the loose, impasto brushwork and the rich palette convey the atmosphere of a bright Mediterranean day.
