The Dream

Description

Author: Zhuvaniyazov, Kuandyk. 1947-2007
A landscape composition depicting a mountain range in the background, with a cloud formation dominating the center of the canvas. On the horizon, a pale disc hangs in the sky above snow-capped mountain peaks of a bluish-grey tone. The central part of the composition is occupied by a large white cloud of an elongated, almost anthropomorphic shape, evoking a spectral, shifting image as if appearing in a dream. The foreground is rendered in horizontal bands of warm brown-ochre tones alternating with pale, almost whitish bands. The painting is executed in broad, directional brushstrokes, lending a fluid dynamism to the composition.
